Cardoso Racing will be aiming for a podium finish at Portimão

The Andalusian team's drivers have shown a great pace in the three days of testing at the Portuguese track.

Everything is ready for the races of the fifth round of the FIM JuniorGP. The qualifying sessions have already come to an end at the Portimão circuit and, after three days of practice, the Cardoso Racing riders have proved to be competitive and will fight to get close to the podium.

Roberto Garcia, who recently underwent surgery for compartment syndrome, has been very consistent and comfortable on the bike. In fact, from the first free practice he was among the best in his category with a fourth place in FP1 and a fifth position in the second free practice.

The qualifying practice has been a bit complicated for him, especially because of the traffic in QP1 that did not allow him to set his best time in this session. Even so, the Andalusian driver was able to set the fourth fastest time in QP2. Looking ahead to tomorrow's two races, Roberto Garcia hopes to climb up from ninth position in search of the podium.

Roberto Garcia: "In the first session we had some problems, we could not complete a good lap because we encountered a lot of traffic. In the second session, at the beginning, we found again slower riders, but we managed to handle it. We didn't lose our composure and in the second start we were really comfortable with the bike and we finished fourth. We were able to do almost the same time as in the morning, something difficult because of the hot conditions, so it's a step forward. Tomorrow we have to continue in the same line".

Also, in Superstock 600, Pasquale Alfano continues to take steps forward and, in his second weekend with this bike, he is proving to be really competitive. The Italian rider will start from seventh position thanks to a best lap of 1:46.951, a time he completed in the first qualifying session.

Pasquale Alfano: "The day went quite well, I'm happy with the qualifying, I think we could have done even better, but we are working very well with the team and I feel very comfortable with the bike. We are close, much closer than we were in Jerez, so for the two races tomorrow I am very confident, I think we can do two good races and fight for the podium."

For his part, Vasilis Panteleakis failed to make the cut in the repechage race. The Greek rider, who started from eighth place, crossed the line in eleventh position. Even so, Panteleakis made a step forward, while his best time in FP1 was 1:55.978, today in qualifying he was able to complete his best lap in 1:53.941.

Vasilis Panteleakis: "Today was a difficult day for me. I had to run the repechage race because I couldn't qualify directly for Sunday's race. In the race I made quite a few mistakes and finished eleventh, so we have to improve these mistakes, but I am very happy with the team's work."

Tomorrow the Moto2 and Superstock 600 races will start at 11:00 and 14:00 (Portuguese time, one hour earlier than in Spain).
